The 2026 WNBA Finals will be heading back to Atlanta after the Golden State Valkyries registered a 64-55 win over the Dream in Game 5.
Despite it being potentially the final game of the series, the Dream were unable to secure a primetime spot at State Farm Arena for the matchup. As a result, the game will now be held in the afternoon.
This has caused a major uproar on social media as WNBA fans demand a better slot for their game, but sports analyst Jason Whitlock silenced the critics with a simple point.
Whitlock reminded WNBA fans that the league is yet to become profitable and that their biggest attraction, i.e., Caitlin Clark, is already out, so it doesn't make any sense for Game 6 to get a primetime slot.
"Upstart leagues that lose millions of dollars every year for 30 years don't get to dictate when they play inside any arena. It's a charity league with one major attraction. The major attraction is out of the playoffs," Whitlock wrote on X .
He added, "Stop the fake outrage. Anybody who has watched the first four games of the series knows exactly why the 12:30 tip makes sense."
In the last few years, the WNBA has seen immense growth and that is reflected in the league's viewership numbers, but it's still nowhere close to the likes of the NBA and NFL.
Even then, many WNBA fans will find Whitlock's comments rude and the sports analyst will likely face some pushback.
