According to multiple reports, the Mississippi State quarterback is set to undergo toe surgery on his right foot. He's been dealing with the injury since Week 4 and left Mississippi State's Week 8 loss to Oklahoma in the first half.

Before returning for the Oklahoma game, Taylor missed MSU's loss to LSU the week before. He attempted to play through the injury in the Bulldogs' loss to Alabama on Oct. 3, but was clearly limited and did not finish the game.

The sophomore was one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football before the injury. He threw for 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions as Mississippi State started the season 4-0 with wins over Minnesota, South Carolina and Missouri.

But Taylor was injured in the Mizzou win and the team's performance has cratered from there. MSU is now 4-3 after three straight losses.

Taylor will finish the season 104-of-159 passing for 1,460 yards and 17 TDs with four interceptions. He's also rushed 46 times for 147 yards and a TD. The 2026 season was his first as a full-time starter after taking over as MSU's quarterback late in the 2025 season.

With Taylor sidelined for the team's final five regular-season games, Parker Puckett takes over as the Bulldogs' starter. In four appearances this season, Puckett is 41-of-64 passing for 368 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Puckett was 17-of-24 for 158 yards and his first TD pass of the season in the Bulldogs' 23-15 loss to the Sooners. Mississippi State visits No. 11 Texas on Halloween before games against Vanderbilt, Auburn and Tennessee Tech ahead of the season-ending Egg Bowl rivalry game with Ole Miss.
